Aims and Objectives

This unit provides an understanding of organisations by examining individual characteristics, drivers of behaviours, and understanding group dynamics and organisational change processes, which ultimately influence organisational effectiveness. Organisational Behaviour is relevant to our working and personal lives given the likelihood of us participating in different organisations over our lifespans as workers, citizens and community or family members, operating as individuals or group members. Organisational Behaviour research draws on theoretical frameworks and insights from many disciplines in the social sciences including sociology and psychology. The unit focuses on both personal and organisational development and effectiveness.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Identify the basic determinants of individual behaviour, group dynamics and organisational processes, and explain how they impact on organisational performance.
2. Identify, describe and evaluate managerial approaches and organisational behaviour theories and concepts.
3. Explore different disciplinary approaches to organisational behaviour and understand how each approach explains individual and group behaviour in the workplace.
4. Develop skills in group work and explore the importance of these skills in managing self and others.
5. Develop reflective learning skills that apply to individual and collaborative work contexts.
