Statement:
We are living in a transition period between the old and the new generations. Nowadays, the way that young adults understand their culture also changes along with contemporary society. Therefore, understanding the insights of GenZ play a significant role in sustaining and developing traditional values due to their impacts on the community.
In the transitioning journey, traditional customs and lifestyles are indispensable factors in Vietnamese culture. In its entire history, Vietnamese culture is the combination of local cultural values and external culture influenced by China, East and Southeast Asia, and Western countries. However, with the impact of foreign cultures, the traditional Vietnamese culture has been protected and sustained without assimilation. It comprises a series of unique customs and habits including worshiping ancestors, chewing betel, giving lucky money during the Tet holiday, etc. These traditional values are continuing along with the emergence of new cultures such as the Christmas holiday, hip-hop, trendy fashion, etc.
So, with this in mind, we ask you these questions:
- What cultural aspects did you find that have changed or appeared to have changed since the start of the technology development?
- How do Vietnamese traditional values affect your ideology and lifestyle currently?
- If you could show cultural interference through a photograph, painting, or video, what would they look like to the viewers?
- Why do you think that reflecting the differences in culture between the past and present is important for our generation?
