SVAP Happy Run Challenge
Between April and May of 2023, SVAP organised a 21-day running challenge to raise awareness within our community on physical health, as well as its impact to our outlook on life.
A student’s wellbeing covers two aspects: physical and mental. According to a study done by Mental Health Foundation UK, physical health problems significantly increase our risk of developing mental health problems, and vice versa. Accordingly, the SVAP Happy Run Challenge encouraged students to exercise and improve their physical health. Running is an exercise that can be done at the participant’s own time and space, which makes it more convenient for our students.
According to Australian government research, running can help to build strong bones, as it is a weight bearing exercise, strengthen muscles, improve cardiovascular fitness, burn plenty of kilojoules, and help maintain a healthy weight. Furthermore, regular physical activity such as running can significantly improve mental health, self-confidence, healthy ageing, and quality of life.
